In 2004, I was a Business major at our local community college,
when I met a 24 year old Breast Cancer survivor in my mother’s
bridal store, A Touch of Grace. Helping her search for a formal
gown to hide her scars, I realized gowns were either too
matronly or too revealing for survivors. Without any drawing or
sewing skills, I entered Fashion Design School at Buffalo State
College, determined to make a difference.
My platform “The Pink Pledge”
has been the focus of my community service. The pledge partners
designers, manufacturers and store owners to create designs for
Breast Cancer Survivor clothing mainstream. I have gained the
support of several designers and celebrities who have joined
“The Pink Pledge” including: Elizabeth Taylor, Al Pacino, Maya
Angelou, Breast Cancer Survivor Peggy Flemming, Tony Bowls of
Mon Cheri and Miss America 2000, Heather French. Together we can
all make a difference, one survivor at a time. |
